Berries-4 Nutritional Properties shows you why berries are the healthiest foods due to their properties.

Berries-4 Nutritional Properties, in Detail.

Berries are highly nutritious and provide many health benefits. Here are some reasons to include raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries in your diet.

  1. Sources of antioxidants

They are loaded with antioxidants that fight oxidative stress. The anthocyanins, ellagic acid, and resveratrol antioxidants protect our cells from damage. Therefore, they keep free radicals under control.

Studies show that consuming 300 grams of blueberries helps protect the DNA against free radical damage.

  1. High in fiber

Berries are a good source of soluble fiber. And soluble fiber slows down the movement of food through the digestive tract. So, you feel full for longer. And you reduce the number of calories you absorb from your meals. They are also low in carbs. For example, 100 grams of blueberries contain 14.5 grams of carbs (2.4 of which are fiber).

  1. Sources of nutrients

Berries are nutritious because they contain vitamins and minerals. Strawberries are high in vitamin C and manganese. For example, 100 grams of blackberries contain 43 calories, 35% vitamin C, 32% manganese, 25% vitamin K1, 8% copper, and 6% folate.

  1. Anti-inflammatory properties

Stress, lack of physical activity, and unhealthy food choices lead to inflammation. And you know, inflammation is your body’s defense against infection or injury.

Chronic inflammation is the cause of diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. Studies show that the antioxidants in berries help lower inflammatory markers.  Drinking a strawberry beverage with a high-carb, high-fat meal decreases certain inflammatory markers.

How Can You Enjoy Berries?

You can include berries in all types of diets. In short, you can enjoy them either organically or frozen. People with digestive disorders or who are allergic to berries should avoid the consumption.

Berries are a wonderful snack or dessert. And topped with plain Greek yogurt, cottage or ricotta cheese, and chopped nuts, your breakfast is extremely nutritious. You may also consume them in various salads.

How Can You Store Berries?

After washing, you can store the fresh berries in a flat container lined with paper towels. Don’t forget to cover it with a loose-fitting lid to escape the excess moisture.  Airtight containers are not good. But only the airflow ones.

Choose the best berries and wash them well. Spread them on a baking sheet. And freeze them until solid. First, put them in a sealable bag. Then store them in the freezer for six months to a year. Remove as much air as possible from the bags before freezing. Read more about storing berries here.

In Conclusion

Berries are highly nutritious. They are a good source of antioxidants and fiber. And they have anti-inflammatory properties. As a result, you should include this delicious fruit in your diet every day. They improve your overall health. I enjoy them because they are the healthiest foods.
